Past Pandemics: A Reflection -- Mashiro Yamashita
I was surprised the most about death toll. For example, because of the plague, about half of Europe’s population was died. It was a surprising number for me.
I think the plague is most terrifying pandemic
because the color of skin become black. It is so scary that they might feel
very nervous at the time.
What we can learn from these pandemics is that living environment is important. These pandemics occurred because of urbanization, the bad situation of a water pump and so on. If their living environment had been good, we would have been able to prevent these pandemics.
Positive change that has resulted from the Covid-19 is about online shopping. I had an image that only young people shopped online before covid. However, today, more and more elderly people shop online because they couldn’t go supermarket. Thanks to online shopping, they can get goods which they need easily.
As you mentioned, plague is a huge problem for us. However, there is an example that pandemic had a good influence for European society. The Black Death epidemic in the 14 centuries completely changed the status of peasants, so it could be said that plague doesn't just have negative problem.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mashiro! As you said, the death toll was really many. We learned that we have to be careful about sanitation the most.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised the most about death toll too. I hope pandemic will never happen anymore.
ReplyDeleteI also got surprised at the death toll. That's really scary for us. However, I think the plaque has contributed to corona virus research.
ReplyDeleteIndeed the death tolls from the bubonic plague outbreaks were stupendous. It is very hard to imagine one person in two in our neighborhoods dying horribly. We are so blessed to live in this era of modern health care. It is sad to say though that good health care is only accessible to the minority of people in the world even today. We need constant reminders to work for more equitable access to health care for all.
ReplyDeleteDavid :-)
I agree online shopping are developed thanks to covid-19. I think it is a nice point.
