Boyan Slat & The Ocean Cleanup -- Ly Phan

Actually, the idea of solving  environment issues is not new. However, Boyan Slat is probably the first person who successfully implemented  cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. He combines environmentalism and technology to solve global issues of sustainability. His innovation not only successfully tackled an environmental problem but also created economic benefits such as jobs and financial profit. I think that his primary motivation is to solve the problem and not for his own financial gains. Although he did not meet his original target of cleaning up the entire Great Pacific Garbage Patch, no one else can do what he has achieved thus far despite criticism from various parties. His project is still going very strong. His motivation and determination is very commendable.

    1. Yes, I agree with you. My point about running a business or a project is: if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. It benefits both sides

  2. I also think his motivation is extremely good, and I felt his passion during watching Ted.

    1. Yes, me either. I remember that he said " If you do this without purpose of making money, then the money will come".

  3. I agree with you too, Li. He has still got a long way to go in tackling the Great Pacific Garbage Patch but at least he is out there trying to 'make a difference' and perhaps fewer marine birds and mammals will die and our children and our children's children will ingest a lot less plastic due to his efforts.
