What I Wish I Had Known About Kiwi CultureーAyano Yoshiike
Time goes by quickly. It has been 4 weeks
since I came to New Zealand. This is my first time to study abroad, so I found a
lot of cultural differences. From one of them, I wish I had known about Kiwi
food culture. Before going to New Zealand, I thought New Zealanders often ate
fish, meat, vegetables, and fruits a lot. This is because New Zealand is very
fertile, is surrounded by the seas, and have a lot of sheep and cows. However,
I noticed that a lot of Kiwi people eat wheat products every day such as bread,
pastas and pizzas. On top of that, they eat sweets made from wheat. In Japan, I
ate wheat products less than now, so my body has changed a little bit. I regret
not having brought ingredients and foods from Japan, but I have embraced the
change. Therefore, I started cooking by myself.
Hi, Ayano. I think different food culture is difficult. I prefer New Zealand food to Japanese food, but I can understand your feelings.
ReplyDeleteFascinating post, Ayano. Kiwis definitely tend to eat wheat-based products such as bread, breakfast cereals, pasta and pizza more than rice and rice-based products such as rice noodles. As for sweets, I think one can take them or leave them. Some people indulge, but others don't because they're watching their weight or they want to prevent tooth decay. David :-)
ReplyDeleteCultural difference is so hard, especially food. However, you could overcome.
ReplyDeleteI found New Zealanders eat fruits, bread, and pizzas more than I thought. I felt I overweight a little, but I always eat a lot because it is too delicious, so I respect you!
ReplyDeleteI respect you because you started cooking:) I also miss Japanese food sometimes because I didn't used to eat wheat foods every day. If you make Japanese foods , can you give a bite?
ReplyDeleteI think the difference of food from Japan is the most biggest problem.
