What I Wish I had Known About Kiwi Culture — Mayuko Nakamura
It has been
5 weeks since I came in New Zealand. I think I got used to live in here. Before
getting used to new life, I was surprised in many times. Then, I would like to
introduce a couple of information that I thought I wanted to know before coming
to New Zealand.
First one is,
there is a strict rule about shower. In New Zealand, people cannot use much hot
water in one day so when my host mother told me that I had to finish taking
shower in 9 minutes. I was surprised. When I was in Japan, I used to take
shower for 15 minutes at least so I was worried I would not be able to finish
the shower in 9 minutes. However I could get used to this culture.
Second, you should
bring clothes with hoods. Most people in New Zealand don’t use umbrellas. I would like to recommend to bring hoodies and it
helps to fit New Zealand culture.
Hi, Mayuko. As you said, New Zealanders are very strict about water. It is difficult for the Japanese, but let's get used to each other.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you and Usa. I always take a shower for 30 minutes and more in Japan so it was difficult for me to adapt this.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know New Zealand don’t use umbrellas, too, but it is rain a lot. We should have brought clothes with wood!
ReplyDeleteShower time is really severe problem for us, but I think this is a good experience for us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your idea about water. I feel guilty when I used water a lot.
ReplyDeleteI also thought I had to bring clothes with a hood ;P Our life in Japan is convenient at shower.
