Clubs Day Debrief -- Mayuko Nakamura

 I was surprised at the atmosphere of this event because there were a lot of club activities and people and most of them were friendly to us. It was a little bit different from Japan. University students in Japan are too aggressive to recruit so I don’t prefer that, but students of Otago University were very kind to us. I couldn’t act well to build networking at the event, but I think through this event, we can expand the relationship with others. 

 

My wish bones was to get along with people who is from foreign countries. I wanted to join a swimming club, but there wasn’t so I will find out another club to suit me. 

 

I couldn’t use jaw bone and communicate effectively because I felt scary a little bit so I didn’t able to talk for myself. I talked a lot with people who was a member of Otago University Student’s Association. They were friendly and they talked in Japanese surprisingly. 

 

About back bone, I had to talk and ask questions. To get a chance I will apply in online as soon as possible. Through this event, I was interested in “Otago International Student’s Association” and “Otago University Japanese Student Association”. I think it will be difficult to join the club which is composed of students who are only New Zealanders. However I will join anime club and badminton club in this weekend so I am going to decide whether I will join or not.

    I think it was different to Japan, too. I like atmosphere in this university. I was surprised that there isn't swimming club! It was sad.

    Everybody was friendly and talkative, so it was easy to speak to them.

    I am glad that you found the students representing the clubs friendly and engaging. Don't worry about not being able to speak up so much at the Clubs' Day as if you actually join a club you'll have numerous opportunities to do so in the context of the club activities. So exercise your 'backbone' and follow through on the opportunities presented here. David :-)

  Hello, class! I’m Shiho and from Japan. Also, I’m 19 years old and now live in Kaikorai with Hilary who is my host mother. I have impressed a nature, a view from my home and a wood stove. I like Dunedin because there’s no high buildings and Dunedin is a beautiful streetscape. Sometimes, I miss Japan and soaking in the bathwater. My favorite subject was Japanese because I like classic so in Japanese classes I could read Japanese classic literature.
