A Problem I Have Solved -- Usa Yamagami

When I was a high school student in grade 3 in autumn, I failed to pass the entrance exam of my first choice university. I took an entrance examination that the Japanese call the AO examination. I wanted to enter the Kobe University of Foreign Studies. However, if I entered this university with a general examination, I would have to take the math and science examination. And I was really bad at these subjects. So, I chose the AO examination because it needs only document screening and an essay and interview examination. I had some qualifications and experience in a homestay, so I overestimated that I could pass the exam. However, I failed, and I completely lost motivation.

In Japan, there are general examinations in January. When I knew my results, it was November. I thought I wasn’t in time for the exam, so I started to watch my favorite Youtuber live and play games with my friends. Of course, I had impatience but I couldn’t restart studying hard.

At that time, my friends cheered me up. I was reminded of a lot of things that I wanted to do after entering university. Also, a school teacher and cram school teacher advised me that I should enter university right after graduating. And my mother said, "You can do it."

Because of these things, I started studying hard again. It was not an easy way, but I had motivation because I knew that a lot of people cheered me up. And finally, I could pass the exam for entering Kansai University. From these experiences, I learn the importance of the power of people who support me. (275words)

  3. A well-told account of your experience, Usa. It is a good thing to take stock and realize how much others have helped us. When people encourage us, saying "You can do it." it means a lot. As for myself, I appreciate the contributions my fellow teachers have made. Their ideas and advice have improved me as a teacher. David :-)
