The Refugee Problem: Is It Getting Better? -- Yugo, Ayano & Mashiro

We believe that refugee problem is getting worse. By refugee problem, we mean that when many displaced people move from their home country to another, in a difficult or dangerous way. We would like to introduce three graphs to support this point.

The first one shows that the number of refugees worldwide from 2004 to 2014. In 2014, the number of refugees rose to 600,000. It rapidly increased.

The second one shows the number of refugees by region in 2014. The blue one is Africa. The red one is Middle East, North Africa. The green one is Europe. The purple one is North Central South America. The light blue one is Asia. The orange one is Palestine. Africa and Middle East account for half of refugees all over the world.

The third one shows that the world refugees are concentrated in 5 specific countries which are Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Myanmar.

In conclusion, almost all of refugee problems result from war and political instability. These are huge problems. To reduce the number of refugees, we should eliminate conflicts and stabilize the political situation.

  3. I also think refugees cause by conflicts. And I heard on the news that refugees were treated badly even at the destination. I hope that war disappears from the world.

    2. The way of treating of refugees is also big problem because some people think that refugees take away their jobs. Refugees problem isn't just a problem to find a country they live, so this problem is difficult.

    2. Thank you Shio. It is difficult for most Japanese people to accept refugees because Japanese language isn't worldwide language, and most of them are conservative since Japan is isolated geographically. Therefore, it is important for Japanese people to do something for refugees such as supporting money, shelters and so on, instead of accepting them.

  6. Nice work. I agree with you that many of the world's refugees are fleeing war, the flood of refugees out of the Ukraine being a case in point. On the other hand, though, poverty I believe continues to be a main driving force of this crisis. The refugees that are flooding into North America and Europe are often motivated by the hope of building a life where they have enough to eat and a roof over their head. You do, though, point to political instability as another cause of refugees and political instability (like war) can lead to poverty.
    David :-)
