Past Pandemics: A Reflection-- Mayuko Nakamura
Through this lecture about pandemics, I
could learn details of pandemics. I had known only their names, but I didn’t
know about what are the symptoms, how many people died, when these diseases
spread and how they solve the problems so I was surprised a lot. I was in team
of the bubonic plague and researched about it so I would like to tell my
impression to the bubonic plague.
There
are many facts that I didn’t know before. Especially, the number of deaths was impressive
for me. Surprisingly, the half of European people died because of the bubonic
plague. I think the bubonic plague is the most terrifying disease because this
symptom is appeared to our bodies. For instance, when people have the bubonic
plague, their bodies become black. It is one of the most terrible symptoms.
What
we have to be scare is lack of knowledge when a new disease struck us. When the
bubonic plague was spread, people was suffered because they didn’t know what to
do and what was the cause. Therefore, getting and choose accurate information from
media is the most important skill.
There
are a lot of negative effects because of Covid 19, but I think it told us that
classes with face to face is better that online classes. Before the Covid 19,
people didn’t know that whether attending classes is good way to learn. However,
people could know that being in classes had merits. For example, students can
concentrate lectures because if they attend on online, they will use smartphone
and they will not listen lecture carefully. Thus Covid 19 made us realize that
attending classes can make good environments to study.
I agree with your idea that online class is good. Sometimes, online class will be useful for us. It is a good aspect of Covid-19!
ReplyDeleteI agree that what we have to be scare is lack of knowledge. We need to think of information as a not absolute one.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know about the pandemics well. I can't believe that about 200 million people died of bubonic plaque.
ReplyDeleteFascinating point, Mayuko, yes one thing Covid has taught us is to treasure the opportunity that taking classes face to face provides. One of the things I am enjoying about teaching onsite as opposed to online is the opportunity to do field trips in the community. I have found it fun to engage with cultural objects in Dunedin's galleries and to attend lectures and talks of various kinds on campus.
ReplyDeleteDavid :-)
Hi, Mayuko! Things that are taken for granted are only realized to be important when they are no longer taken for granted. I also think the face-to-face class is better than the online class!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your posting. I also agree how terrible those past pandemics are.
